Whatever The Cause Of The Problem, We Need To Fix It.

Now, An Inconvenient Truth really persuaded me into thinking that humans were the sole cause of global warming. What I didn’t realize at the time was that I had only seen one side of the story and only heard one opinion, Al Gore’s opinion. Now that I have gotten a peek at what The Great Global Warming Swindle has to say about the topic, I think they make some very valid points.

In An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore talks about what he thinks are the reasons for global warming. One of the more prominent reasons he talks about is the CO2 level rising and being the main cause of global warming. Al Gore was saying that the reason the amount of CO in the atmosphere made such a difference was the sun’s rays come to the earth going through the atmosphere and most of the heat and light reflects off of the earth and continues on its way. Now of course some of it is retained in the atmosphere, that’s what keeps the earth warm. The problem is because there is more and more CO2 in to the atmosphere, and more and more of the heat from the sun gets trapped in. It is our fault because all this pollution we are creating puts some much CO2 in the air. While that seems to be a logical explanation for global warming, The Great Global Warming Swindle has something a little different to say about that.

The Great Global Warming Swindle talks about the fact that the reason the world is getting hotter is not at all because of humans. They say the reason is natural causes. It isn’t due to CO2 because the level of COand the temperature of the earth over the last millennium there has been a giant gap in when the temperature goes up and the CO2 follows; a gap that is a couple hundred years long. Therefore there is no way that COis the cause of global warming. The earth already went through cycles of ice ages and massive heat waves on its own before humans had anything to do with it. In the 1400’s there was a “little ice age” when the earth became extremely cold. Before that in the “medieval warming period” it became very warm. Way farther back before that in B.C. times, there was the “Holocene Maximum” that lasted for 3000-4000 years, when the earth became extremely hot. The point is the earth isn’t getting warmer because of us, it’s getting warmer because of the natural cycle of the earth.

Now, I don’t know exactly whom I should believe or which side I should take but I do know one thing. Instead of wasting time arguing over whose fault it is and what the cause is, we should be trying to figure out how to stop it from happening. It really doesn’t matter if it’s the earth’s natural cycle, human cause pollution, or even and alien spaceship zapping earth making it hotter (just kidding, aliens actually would matter), we need to find a way to stop it from happening or prepare for it.

This is a great point and I definitely agree with you. I too am very confused about which story to believe and I don’t know what to do. You talked about how we need to do something and put an end to global warming, no matter what the cause. I didn’t think about this because I was so concerned about what to believe but you are absolutely right; we need to put aside the argument and just try and fix the problem.

I agree with what you said. I am also confused about who to believe and which movie is more accurate. I mean obviously someone is right. But who? I definitely agree with you on the fact that we need to help fix global warming but what can we do?
